I’m Anthi Nicola — a documentary filmmaker, producer and writer interested in people, culture, and the strange world we’ve built around ourselves.
My work sits somewhere between the personal and the political. I’m drawn to the things we experience privately but rarely talk about publicly: the noise inside our heads, the systems that shape our lives, the stories we inherit, and the contradictions that make us human.
I like documentaries that don’t simply tell you what to think. I like films that make you stop, look again, and perhaps notice something you hadn’t noticed before.
I’m currently studying Documentary Film at UAL, having previously worked in law. It’s a slightly unusual route into filmmaking, but perhaps an appropriate one. I’m interested in asking difficult questions, finding the human story underneath them, and turning those questions into films.
Alongside my filmmaking, I write and publish through Civic Sanity, an independent project exploring society, culture, politics and the experience of being alive in the 21st century.
This is where I’m making things, figuring things out, and occasionally trying to make sense of the world.
