I’d like to preface this article with the acknowledgement that I, in fact, do not know what I am doing. Not in the very slightest.
But like the masses, I attempt to ask the biggest questions of all, concerning all matters of the absurd notion that any single human on the planet has any remote significance – we are all, of course, stardust. Unique, flawed and brilliantly crafted – to just work.
I find myself pondering my ‘reason’. My ‘why’. I don’t believe any human alive, or dead, has ever had a purpose or reason, nor has it ever been an expectation from the universe itself. The made-up, sycophantic rules surrounding the notion that any living thing must do anything have meaning in this world is nothing less than a barbaric, grotesque misalignment of what values we should truly have.
And that may be the biggest question on my constant mind – values.
Whether you believe that you are foolproof, following the narratives and guidelines of various spiritual or religious leaders. Or if you believe that you are nothing more than sick and twisted, taking pleasure in extreme measures of antisocialism. Or perhaps, maybe you don’t care – living permanently within the grey lines, just outside the confines. Not to be perceived or judged for your non-action.
It has always been known, that once you establish your innate values of being, the blueprint of who you are inside can unfold before your eyes.
Thus, what do you value?
Is it kindness? Vigor? Greatness? Vanity?
To unlock your inner workings is to discover who you are truly in your mind’s eye. To discover what makes you tick, what drives your very being and integrity.
What do you truly wish to be remembered as?
Who do you truly desire to be seen as?
We all exist within the lines of self-fulfilling prophecies; each action and word spoken into this abyss will translate into the energy we push out, and, in turn, the energy we will receive. This world has too often been caught up in the ways of cynicism and pessimism, disguised as realism. And yes, it is a fact that this world is something of a horror story, especially nowadays, with the ticking time-bomb of climate change knocking on our door, and the increasingly devlish political climate, ever daunting our psyche and flooding us with feelings of dreadful impending doom.
However, we need to remember that this is not all the world is. Yes, practice realism – but not through the lens of pseudo-cathartic scepticism. The world can be one of colourful magnificence, painted with each emotionally-driven colour of our divine range.
View this world through the scope of your personal values.
Be ever-romantic in the pursuit of your internal integrity.
It is a fool’s game to remain stuck in the desires and values of others – whether that be of parental figures, friends, religious values or misguided social media gurus, who prophetically spout ‘wellness tips and tricks’. Only deep within us can we truly find out what we believe. The intricate lines following the butterflies’ many winding paths, highlighting how our choices become us – this is the way to find out who you truly are.
How one treats others is a reflection of how one treats oneself. Value feelings and prioritise your reactions. Control what you can, and dispel the thoughts of what you cannot.
Although the world is a heavy place, cascading into the mind, we can seek a bright path by simply aligning our thoughts with our actions.
There is nothing simpler than choosing what we want – if we can simply throw misguided caution to the wind.
